My first look through the ground glass of a 35mm camera, in the early days of a five- month study abroad program, literally changed my life. So uncaptivated was I by the concept of visual art, I had left home on a worldwide adventure without even taking a camera. Two years later I graduated with a degree in photography and have been working with images and text ever since. In addition to my freelance work, this included positions with The Witkin Gallery, Magnum Photos and New York Graphic Society. In the 1980s, I spent a pivotal three years living in Japan, started a family and eventually settled in Los Angeles. More than a decade ago, Carolee Campbell, publisher of fine press books under the imprint of Ninja Press, asked me if I would be interested in assisting in her bindery. Many years have passed since my introduction to the art of handmade books. I continue to bind at Ninja Press, but also create my own books. In addition to my personal work, I do commissions and conduct bookbinding workshops for both children and adults. Please click below to email comments
